I was honored when award-winning writer Michael Steinberg, the founding editor of the journal Fourth Genre, asked if he could re-post something I wrote for the Superstition Review blog on his own blog.
Mike is a writer-in-residence at the Solstice MFA Creative Writing Program, one of my alma maters. He was endlessly helpful during my years as a student in the program and has continued to be a supportive force in my writing life. At the same time, Mike pulls no punches; he has often encouraged me to work longer and harder on an essay when he feels it hasn’t quite “arrived.” I’ve had some of my most frustrating (and educational) moments as a writer when I’ve presented Mike with something I thought was “finished” only to have him give me that tell-tale look that said, “not quite.”
So it is indeed an honor for me to know that Mike liked this piece enough to re-post it on his blog.
You can read the full blog post here.
Mike is currently recuperating from surgery and featuring a number of excellent guest bloggers writing on craft, so it’s worth it to read through some of the blog’s previous posts (including his own).
Thanks, Mike!
