I’ve been working on a long-form project in recent months, so the small projects/publication announcements have been fewer. One thing hasn’t changed — reading is an important part of my life, right alongside writing. Normally I lean towards classic literature and modern European novels (think Fredrik Backman), but lately I’ve found myself interested in more escapist reading. From cozy mysteries to lighter novels, I’ve needed a bit of a break from the world.

Enter the Thursday Murder Club series by Richard Osman. These books offer the escapism of cozy mysteries — quirky characters, humor, and a pet or two — but with a bit more emotional depth. Add extra doses of intelligence, irony, and wit, stir in touches of social commentary, and you have solid, smart novels that still make you smile and help you escape. Of course, you’re following clues related to mysteries along the way.

Highly recommended.
